Partial payments
PAY. supports partial payments, allowing customers to split a transaction across multiple payment methods. For example, a customer can pay part of the amount with a gift card and pay the remaining balance with another gift card or payment method.

The exact payment flow depends on the method used to pay the remaining amount.
How do partial payments work?
When a customer uses a gift card as part of a partial payment, the following process generally applies:
- The customer starts the payment and enters their gift card details.
PAY. verifies the gift card details and authorizes the amount on the card. - The customer pays the remaining amount using another payment method.
The gift card payment is only marked as PAID and the balance deducted from the card after the remaining payment has been completed successfully. - The transaction must be completed within 30 minutes.
If no payment has been completed within 30 minutes, the transaction is automatically cancelled.
Partial payments with BNPL methods
The process is slightly different when a gift card is combined with a pay-later payment method.
PAY. immediately captures the amount paid with the gift card.
What happens to the remaining payment depends on the capture settings of the pay-later method:
- Direct Capture
The remaining payment is captured immediately as well. - Delayed Capture
The remaining payment still needs to be captured or released separately.
If the pay-later payment is released or cancelled, PAY. automatically refunds the amount paid with the gift card back to the gift card.
Note: The payment flow can therefore differ depending on the payment method used for the remaining balance.
