WeChat Pay

WeChat Pay is a semi-wallet. Unlike a standard wallet, where money must first be deposited, a semi-wallet can forward funds to other payment methods such as a bank account number or a credit card. The WeChat app was released in 2011 by our contract partner Tencent and has already been installed by millions of end users for online communication and payments.

In the WeChat app, Chinese end users can link their payment account or credit card. Once an end user has paid and this has been confirmed by the app, the same amount is deducted from the WeChat Pay balance or from the linked payment method. You receive WeChat Pay transactions in your account balance just as you are used to with other payment options.

2. E-commerce with handheld scanner

Payments in the physical store at the checkout can be made via the QuickPAY option. A user can select this option by going to MONEY in the app. After this, a barcode or a QR code is shown. Both contain a unique code that is valid as long as the app is open. If no handheld scanner is available, the payment code can be displayed on the screen instead. In this case, the employee can manually enter this 18-digit code, which starts with 10, 11, 12, 13, or 14. Once the code has been entered, your customer receives a confirmation on their phone. Sometimes payment is completed immediately, and for higher amounts the customer presses the ''PAY NOW'' button to complete the payment.

The user's phone must be connected to the internet during this payment. The speed of the entire payment depends on this connection. In practice, the app receives the payment request from the checkout within one second.

3. E-commerce via QR

Online payments can easily be completed by your customer using the app. Once your customer chooses WeChat as the payment option, they are redirected to a Hosted Payment Page (HPP) where a QR code is displayed. Once this code is scanned, the transaction details such as your company / trade name, the amount, and the description of the payment order are shown. In most cases, pressing the ''PAY NOW'' button is sufficient. In certain cases, the app will ask for additional verification such as a password, PIN code, Face ID, or Touch ID.
