BLIK
BLIK is a Polish real-time payment system developed by Polski Standard Płatności (PSP) and supported by the largest Polish banks.
Unlike card payments, BLIK does not use a PAN (Primary Account Number), but authentication via the consumer's mobile banking app.
The payment method is available to consumers with a supported Polish bank account and is widely accepted within Polish e-commerce.

Payment flow
The most commonly used payment flow consists of a one-time 6-digit authorisation code:
- The consumer chooses BLIK during checkout.
- A unique 6-digit code is generated in the mobile banking app.
- The code is entered at checkout.
- The transaction is forwarded to the issuing bank.
- The consumer confirms the payment in the banking app.
- After authorisation, the PSP immediately receives the authorisation status.
The authorisation code is only valid for a short time and can be used only once.
Authentication
Strong Customer Authentication takes place within the banking app. The consumer usually confirms the payment with:
- biometrics (fingerprint or facial recognition);
- a PIN code;
- or another authentication method supported by the bank.
Because the authentication is carried out by the bank, the merchant does not need to implement any additional authentication steps.
What the customer sees on the statement
The transaction description is the description shown to the consumer during the payment process and/or that may be visible in the banking environment.
To make the payment recognisable for both the consumer and the merchant, the following structure is recommended:
| Rule | Contents | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Rule 1 | Transaction ID or reference (manual transfer code) | 8000 0448 1999 4545 |
| Rule 2 | Description of the customer | Merchant Description |
| Rule 3 | Name of the entrepreneur | Merchant.PublicName or Service.TradeName |
| Rule 4 | The merchant's website (URL), for example: www.yourwebshop.nl | URL of the Service |
One Click BLIK
In addition to the standard code, BLIK also supports One Click.
After the consumer gives permission, a merchant can build a trusted relationship, so that for follow-up payments a new 6-digit code no longer needs to be entered. The consumer only needs to confirm the payment in the banking app.
This lowers friction for repeat purchases.
Real-time authorisation
BLIK transactions are authorised in real time. Upon approval, the PSP immediately receives a final authorisation status, allowing the merchant to process the order right away.
The exact processing time depends on the availability of the bank involved, but usually takes only a few seconds.
Refunds
Refunds are supported and can be carried out via the PSP. The refund is processed to the same bank account used for the original BLIK transaction.
Chargebacks
BLIK has a fundamentally different risk model than card payments.
Because every payment is authenticated by the consumer in the banking app, the traditional chargeback process used with Visa and Mastercard does not exist. Disputes are therefore handled differently than within the international card networks.
Use cases
BLIK is mainly used for:
- e-commerce;
- mobile payments;
- subscriptions (One Click);
- digital services;
- marketplaces;
- ticketing.

When is BLIK suitable?
BLIK is particularly relevant when a merchant serves a significant number of Polish consumers. In Poland, BLIK is one of the most widely used online payment methods and is supported by virtually all major consumer banks.
For merchants without a Polish target audience, the payment method typically adds little value.
Participating banks
Most banks in Poland have integrated the BLIK payment option into their mobile banking apps, making it easy for customers to use BLIK for payments.

Notes
- SGB Banki Spółdzielcze and Grupa BPS are umbrella organisations for dozens of local cooperative banks. Each affiliated bank has its own SWIFT/BIC code.
- Most BLIK payments are not routed based on the BIC code. The BIC is mainly relevant for international transfers (SWIFT) and identification of the issuing bank. BLIK itself uses its own infrastructure for authorisation and routing
