Release Period: When Can a Payment Be Paid Out?

Each payment option has its own release period. This period determines when the amount of a successful payment becomes available for payout.

Payout Frequency

As soon as an amount has been released, your payout frequency determines when it is paid out. Depending on your settings, Pay. can pay out the available balance daily, weekly, or monthly, for example.

Important: The payout frequency has no effect on the release period of a payment. A daily payout frequency therefore does not mean that every payment is paid out the next day. A payment must first be released according to the release period of the relevant payment option.

Clearing

A clearing is the payout of amounts that have been released and are available for payout at that time. A clearing can contain payments from different payment options and transaction dates. Because release periods can differ per payment option, payments received on the same day can end up in different clearings. Any fees, refunds, and other corrections can affect the final amount of the clearing.

Example

You receive two payments via different payment options on the same day. Payment option A has a shorter release period than payment option B. As a result, the payment via payment option A becomes available for payout sooner. The payment via payment option B only becomes available once its release period has elapsed. Even if you have daily payouts set up, these payments can therefore end up in different clearings.

Release After Reconciliation

With Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL), the release of a payment can depend on reconciliation with the payment option. After a payment has been processed, Pay. checks whether the corresponding funds have been received and links them to the correct transaction.

Only after reconciliation has been completed successfully can the amount be released for payout. As a result, the moment of release for BNPL can vary: the payment only becomes available for a clearing after the received funds have been successfully reconciled. You can read more about the reconciliation of payments here.
